Magic is that special something. It’s a feeling you can’t quite explain that takes a product or a person from good to great, from want to need, from admiration to infatuation. It’s an energy. It’s intangible. It’s emotional. It’s premium worthy. It’s honest. It’s simple. It’s generous. It’s beautiful to watch and effortless to enjoy. Everyone wants it, even those who don’t understand it. And once you have it, nothing else is ever the same.
Practically, magic is identifying, manifesting, and sharing the core energy behind a business, person, or idea.

Alan Philips is an executive, entrepreneur, writer, speaker, and connector. He specializes in bringing together creators and companies to create opportunities for innovation, brand building, and growth.
Currently he serves as the Chief Marketing Officer of Turnberry Associates, a real estate & hospitality group, specializing in large scale lifestyle developments in hospitality, retail, and residential such as Fontainebleau Miami Beach. Prior to that he served as Senior Vice President of Brand Experience at WeWork and Chief Marketing Officer for Morgans Hotel Group.
Alan’s career began with a culinary stage with chef Wolfgang Puck at the original Spago Restaurant on Sunset Boulevard, prior to starting his own business he also maintained positions with Myriad Restaurant Group (Nobu) & Strategic Group (Tao/Marquee). In 2001, he launched his own hospitality marketing & consulting firm, Sky Group; working on projects for hotels, casinos, restaurants, chefs, nightclubs, caterers, & mobile food operations both nationally & internationally. In 2010, he brought the first “pop up” restaurants to New York with his company Guerrilla Culinary Brigade and has executed over a dozen “pop up” projects since helping start the pop up trend in the United States.
After over a decade as an entrepreneur, Alan joined Morgans Hotel Group. At Morgans he oversaw the concepting, marketing, & development of boutique hotels & their associated brands in the U.S., Europe, the Caribbean, Middle East, & Asia, as well as management & development of Morgan’s global food & beverage business.
Alan regularly writes about the hospitality business; contributing to media outlets such as Zagat, Hotels Magazine, & QSR Magazine, he published his first book, “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Starting a Food Truck Business” in 2012 and is currently working on his second, The Rules of Magic. Alan attended Cornell University’s school of Hotel Management and was appointed to PR Week’s Innovation 50 in 2016.
